There is an ice storm outside. J is taking an extremely long nap. So I started a blog. I'm starting for completely self-serving reasons. I want a place that I can display the things I make. Michael can only muster up so much excitement for my completed sewing projects. But, I'm also hoping that this will be a place that I can organize my crafting and sewing plans.
Sewing for me is a mild addiction. I crave fabric like I craved Cherry Garcia Ben & Jerry's ice cream when I was pregnant.
Do I need it?
no.
But when the idea strikes it's like a big fat elephant sitting on me. A sewing loving elephant. An SLE, if you will. And he'll just sit there, not letting me think about anything else (because how could you think about anything else when an SLE is on your lap) until I buy the fabric (or the pattern, or the trim, or the...). Sometimes I can momentarily move the SLE. But, he always comes back.
I imagine this guy kinda knows how I feel
I don't really mind the elephant, although he is definitely distracting. Maybe this will be an outlet, a place where I can keep the SLE in check.
I've been doing a lot of sewing lately.
My goal is to sew 1/2 of J's spring/summer wardrobe. My latest obsession are these patterns. I can't say enough good things about them. The fit is amazing. The garments come together so easily. Every time I use an Oliver + S pattern I learn something new and the project always looks professional. The patterns are unique and different and I'm always surprised by how darling they look on little bodies.
I made the classic picnic shorts in a size 2T, with the hope that they would fit her perfectly in the spring. Unfortunately they fit her great now. They might not make it to the warmer months.
I wanted these shorts to match, well, everything. But, I love the pop of color on the front waistband facing.
Here they are on J. With Moose in the background staring off into the icy tundra. That day it snowed 2-3 inches. Ironic, isn't it?
I used this fantastic yard dyed linen by Robert Kaufman. I'm obsessed with this fabric and I've already used it in 2 other projects besides these shorts.
The top J is wearing is a self drafted T I made. I used this fabric in Schroom. It's a bit pricey, but a wonderful knit for someone like me who doesn't sew with knits often.
Well this post is long enough! More projects to come, happy sewing!
