Ice cream top and Gail K Fabrics

34
I have found it.

Heaven.

It's owned by a woman named Gail in downtown Atlanta and it's called Gail K. Fabrics.

I knew there had to be something better than JoAnns in Atlanta.  I was googling fabric stores and Gail K. popped up.  They sell only apparel fabric and they have everything you could ever want or need.

Hundreds of fabrics stacked from floor to ceiling.  They have everything from beautiful $40/yard silks, beaded and embroidered fabric, to cotton and knits for $5-10/yard.  They have thousands of buttons.  Buttons as big as your face.  Nothing excites me the way buttons do.  Well some things excite me the way buttons do,  but those things are edible and tend to contain chocolate and have nothing to do with sewing.

I could spend hours in this store.  It's a good thing this little person won't let me, or I would never leave.

J did surprisingly well as I shopped for an hour, considering it took us an hour to drive there.  She loves to feel all of the fabrics.  She's a good little fabric shopping partner. I start 'em young.

It was almost impossible to go home with just one thing.  So I didn't, I left with 2 things.  Seriously, leaving with 2 took every ounce of self control I have.   Gail's store reminded me of Mood in Project runway.  It was all I could do to not say "Thank you Gail" in a Tim Gunnish voice.

I bought some awesome tweed hot pink/white houndstooth, and purple gingham. I don't know what I'm going to do with either yet.  I'm thinking a dress for J in the tweed.  I actually think this dress would be perfect.  But that dress is better for fall or winter, so I might hold off for a while.

To end here's a picture of the first Oliver + S ice cream top I made.  I love this top on J, but I can't get her to pose for a decent picture in it, so these will have to do.

I used Robert Kaufmen essex yarn dyed linen in indigo for the bottom and a cute little flower print I found at a nearby quilting store (another fantastic store).  I love this top, it's perfect with skinny jeans for the warmish spring weather we're having.
