New Clothes!

34
J's just barely starting to outgrow the things I made for her in March, and Michael and I were soooo sick of seeing her in the same 7 outfits over and over again.  Poor girl needed some new clothes.  When the options are 1. spending money buying new clothes or 2. spending money buying fabric to make new clothes, I'm always going to go with option 2.

Jane has a bajillion dresses so I was on a mission to make everyday sort of things.

I purchased the the bateau neck top pattern from Wee Muses off of etsy.  I didn't own just a good solid t-shirt pattern yet.

I found a couple of 1/2 yard knits on sale at Girl Charlee and got started.

I started with the 2T Bateau Top and added (an oddly placed, whoops) chest pocket and arm tabs. I still need to sew some cute buttons on those.  I love this fabric.  I think it used to come in some pretty awesome color combinations, but the black and white is all that is available now.

The 2T turned out to be too big.  So that night I whipped up the same top in an 18 month size.

This pattern is great.  It's fast and clear and the sizing is perfect.  Jane is a little small. I should have figured the 2T would be way too big.  I'm already planning on making more of these.  The best part about this pattern is all the variations available.  It's definitely not just a t-shirt pattern.  There are a lot of options.

I also found this cool stretch denim at JoAnns with tiny blue/teal hearts that I used to make a lazy days skirt from Oliver + S.  Such a great pattern, I embarrassed to say that everything that could go wrong with this skirt did. I chalk it up to not really sewing for the entire summer.  I love this skirt though.  I can't wait to make more of these.  J LOVES skirts.

I also made a pair of these.  Scalloped lined shorts from MADE.

The shorts were really tricky.  That scallop took me maybe 4 tries to get right.  I'm happy with how they look.  The fit could be better though, there isn't enough room for her bottom AND diaper. Hopefully they'll work even better when J's out of diapers, whenever that will be haha!  Seriously though, I really am not excited or motivated to potty train, but I've had some people ask when we will or if we've started.  I guess it's time to start thinking about it.

I read somewhere on great wide web that in some asian countries the mothers whistle a little song whenever they're babies wet their diapers.  After a few months of this, the kids will actually go on command and babies there can be potty trained as early as 9 months.

It was on the internet so it must be true.

Anyway...

Here she is in her new stuff.

The 18 month T is still really roomy, which is great.  Rather have it too big.  But it will take a long time for that 2T shirt to fit well.

Ok, and can we just take a moment to talk about how cute and how demanding toddlers are???!!  J is like a little dictator.  A dictator that can't always vocalize what she wants and who says no when she often means yes.  In fact, whenever I ask her a question she'll always answer no first and then say what she really means second.  Example: "Do you want a cookie?" "Noo!!!......Yeah!".

Breakfast is always an event.  She doesn't want that spoon, she wants another spoon.  Now she wants two spoons.  The spoon fell on the floor, get another one. She wants more bananas, more cheerios all while a pile of each are on her plate.  I don't even need to work out anymore. I get up so many times during breakfast.

With all those demands, she does so many cute things too.  She's started to call me the nicknames I have for her, like Babe.  Instead of "Mommy, all done!", it is now "All done Babe!". Definitely not complaining about that one.

She also has an insatiable appetite for princesses.  She loves them and I love that she loves them.  We are totally going all out princess for halloween.  Either Snow White or Cinderella.  Can't wait to get started on that project!  It's going to be so much fun to sew.

Happy Sewing!
