Catchin' up...

So I was pregnant there for a while and then I had a baby and I didn't blog about my sewing at all. I was looking through my pictures and I realized I had kind of sewed a lot but never bothered to load the pictures and write about it.  So here we are.

J has been a less than willing model as evidenced by the pictures below.  It was all I could do to get her to NOT stick out her tongue in every picture.  I could retake these but I'm tired, and I have a 3 month old, and a cold, and I'm not a professional blogger, and I'm tired.

So I made 2 dresses for J a while back. I got these fabrics on sale at JoAnns.  The cute anchor fabric was in the remnants bin.  I never bother to search for fabric in there because CHILDREN, but sometimes it pays off spend some extra time searching.

I used the Oliver + S ice cream dress for this pattern. It's a good classic pattern because it looks great in a lot of fabrics.  I love it in this white, navy, gray combination.  It must be comfortable too because J was always willing to put it on.

The next dress was my personal favorite of the 2 but it took J at least 5 months to actually decide she liked it.  I used a simple gray and white seersucker and purchased some navy buttons for the front.  This pattern is the Oliver + S apple picking dress given to me by my awesome sister Mary, Thanks Mary!

So I was super excited about Halloween this year.  J is old enough to have an opinion about what she wanted to be and I had these grand visions of going and picking out fabric with her and making all of her Halloween dreams come true.

Lofty goals for a 3 year old.  It went more like this.  J changed her mind about 536 times until she finally settled on a "sparkly witch". I was totally excited about making a "sparkly witch" so we went to the store and after picking out all of the fabric she decided she wanted to be Cinderella.  The new live action version of Cinderella.  We abandoned our fabric and left the store because I really had no idea what I needed and I didn't want to mindlessly grab fabric because that leads to me spending a small fortune at the fabric store. I made a plan and used a slightly modified version of the pattern I used for the snow white dress from last year. 10 yards of tulle later we got this...

Not nearly as poofy as the movie version, but I think it's a success, especially when you consider it cost me about $30 dollars to make. Not bad.

It absolutely boggles my mind that J wore this dress 6 out of 7 days last week and these 2 pictures are the best I got. I mean seriously, look at her face in that last one.  Just look at it. A professional photographer I am not.

Next I need to take some decent pictures of A in his blessing outfit.  At this rate I'll blog about that in about 15 months.  Happy Tuesday!
