We spent Easter in Utah so we could attend Michael's grandma's funeral. Although I wish we had been there for different reasons, it was great to see family. It was especially nice to be with them during Easter. We ALL stayed at my sister- in-law Kimberly's home. She was soooo nice to let us all stay with her, and her beautiful new house had plenty of room for all of us. J was in cousin heaven. Here's Michael's dad with a couple of his cute grandsons.
The Easter bunny hid eggs at the nearest park for the kids. They had a lot of fun, but the weather was windy and pretty cold.
Of course there was an Easter egg hunt tragedy.
It was quickly resolved.
After church we took some quick family pictures since we're never all together. The kids were kind of over taking pictures in the cold, windy Utah weather in that last one.
I took this picture of A while we were there. This is his constant state - arms and hands moving like crazy.
Now onto the dress. Two dresses actually.
I've been seeing dresses like these all over Pinterest with a large ruffle sewn into the bodice that is really big enough to be almost a flutter sleeve.
I really liked the look of them so I decided to try and recreate my own using my recently purchased geranium dress pattern. I made one of these dresses in a 0-3 month size for a friend's brand new baby girl and one in a 3T for J.
I bought this muted blue linen in LA's garment district when we were there a few weeks ago. It's really thick and very soft. I really love it. I'm so glad I bought several yards, just enough to cut out these two dresses and a pair of O+S picnic shorts for J (that I haven't sewn up yet).
I happened to have this nice wide pleated lace in my stash. The linen and the lace work pretty well together I think.
Found these pretty purple buttons in my Grandma Joanie box of buttons.
I wish that I sewed better five years ago when my friends first started having kids. I cringe to think of some of the things I sewed for friends' newborns. I feel like I need to go back and resew something for all of them now that I'm a little better at it.
As with most clothing items, they look even better on a cute model. Here's J wearing her brand new dress.
Wooden buttons for her.
I had to use different lace for her dress. Fortunately I had that in my stash too.
We did some gardening last weekend and we needed to buy new pots for our front porch. We got some nice big ones and I knew that I had to make one into a fairy garden. My mom bought me this little house and those cute little garden accessories a while back. So all I needed to do was add some plants, a pebble path, and we were in business.
I did it after J went to bed and told her the next morning that fairies had built a house in our new flower pot. She was pretty excited. She tried to look in there to see if she could find them, and then ran into the house to find them some food. She decided that fairies eat the papery parts of an onion peel and has been leaving food for the fairies ever since. Poor fairies ; )
Poor A didn't get anything out of this sewing spree. I need some more boy patterns so I can make this kid some clothes.
