Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

This post isn't about a wedding, ok there is mention of one wedding, but mostly it's actually about sewing. SURPRISE!!  That phrase just happens to perfectly describe the projects I finished.

But, before we get to the sewing...a little update.  We had a great Memorial day! Michael's parents came over from Nashville to watch the twerps for us while we went to the most romantic wedding I think I've ever been to. It was for a colleague of my husband.  I cried like 4 times.  It was an awesome date night and we had a blast getting to spend a little bit of time with his mom and dad.

The week has been mostly uneventful but today was taken over by pine straw.  Every one uses pine straw as mulch out here, so we decided to get our Georgia on and pine straw the giant weed garden in our backyard.  It took 6 hours, but it's done, thanks to some nice boys from our church.

I wish I had a before picture because it used to look like a jungle.

Also A is officially a part of our family.  I finally hung some pictures up of him on the wall.  So now we're stuck with him ; )

Actually the whole hallway wall got a face lift.  I had originally hung some really cheap tiny 5 x 7 frames filled with pictures from our wedding I printed on our 10-year-old printer. Glad to finally be done with those 7 years later.

OK, now onto the sewing.  First something old:

For our first Christmas together, Michael gave me a super cute skirt and cardigan that I've kept all these years because I loved it so much.  Two tiny humans later I didn't think I could squeeze into it again, but I didn't want to get rid of it!! So I turned it into a dress for J.

I was barely able to cut a Geranium dress size 3T out of the dress. I dropped the bodice considerably and added that ruffle detail for fun.

J is really into gold these days, and so I added some gold buttons and she has worn it almost every other day since I made it.  A rare thing around here. #momwin

I used the skirt lining to line the skirt of the dress and decided to do a scallop hem that would peek under the main part of the skirt.

Something new:

I made this plain white linen top for J (also from the Geranium dress pattern) and it was just way too boring.  So, I decided to try something new and do some hand embroidery.

It was really fun and didn't take too long. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out considering that I had to rely on pinterest tutorials and making things up as I went along.

The back of the top is my something borrowed:

Pretty blue glassy buttons from Grandma.  Her buttons never disappoint.

And something blue (even though basically everything I made for this post had some blue, ignore that and stick with me):

The shorts.  I am so in love with the Oliver + S Picnic shorts.  It was the first O+S pattern I bought and I've made 4 pairs.  They come together so fast (I think these took me about an hour) and they just have a classic look so they never look out-of-style.

They definitely look better on bigger bodies I think. I made this pattern when J was only 18 months and her diaper just didn't do much for the fit, but they're perfect now.

The whole ensemble...

and a few more pictures for good measure.  Also when did my toddler turn into a little girl?

What happens when I tell J to say cheese. I'm not complaining, she has some awesome poses.

I know I'm his mom, but man, that is one cute baby.

Telling me something very important.

And suddenly she had had enough and wanted to run around the room instead : )

Well that's all I've got.  Next up is a pair of matching shorts for A and a skirt for J out of a strawberry chambray I bought from Fabric.com. I'm so excited to get started on that project.  Hope you guys have a great Thursday!!
