So a little over a year ago I was hugely pregnant with A and working on my sister Mary's wedding cake. She got married in June to Sergio who is awesome....
Now my brother's getting married to the beautiful Ellie in just a week and a half and I am so excited!!
I love weddings, and I love that I get to be a part of the big day! I was able to make Mary and Sergio's wedding cake and I'm excited that I get to do that for Ellie and Sam too. I'm also very excited that I get to make their cake in a non-pregnant state.
On top of that we get to go to Utah a week early to go on a trip with Michael's family. It's going to be such a fun week!
I'm a bridesmaid and Michael is a groomsmen and as I searched for a dress I thought how nice it would be if the kids could be in outfits that coordinated with ours. We will also be taking family pictures with Michael's family and I thought maybe these wedding outfits could do double duty. So I pondered, hemmed, hawed, planned and went to JoAnn's ; )
I didn't have a ton of time to sew these outfits. I did the majority of the work in the last couple of days. In total I had to make 5 pieces of clothing, a pair of shorts (that my husband wasn't thrilled with) for A, a pair of pants (that my husband liked much better) for A, a button down shirt, a bowtie, and a dress for J. It was a LOT of sewing and I had to stay up until past midnight two nights in a row to finish these outfits that I didn't really need to make in the first place but really I had to because once the idea came into my head I couldn't stop myself. I know that was a run on sentence, but that is how my brain works. Just one big really long run on sentence that never stops.
So here are the outfits. The wedding colors are coral, navy, tangerine, and gold.
I used the Oliver + S sketchbook shirt in a 12-18 month size for this top. A is almost 1 year and this shirt fits him perfectly. It's has a nice slim fit, but not so slim that he can't crawl around and be comfortable in it. I've been eyeing this pattern ever since I found out I was having a boy. It lived up to all my expectations. It makes the perfect professional looking button down shirt, you know for all of those professional baby meetings A goes to.
After searching unsuccessfully for fabric to make this shirt I finally went to goodwill (my second favorite fabric store) and found a large mens button down shirt in a really soft cotton twill, it still had the tags on and everything. There was just enough to cut out a shirt that would fit A. I used an old shirt of Michael's for the placket facing and bowtie.
This is my second pair of museum trousers. I made a pair of sketchbook shorts but the front pleat on those shorts on a baby just made them look a little too roomy. Plus Michael hated them, and after a facebook poll I decided he had a point. I like pants on A that are a little more slim. So I cut the 12-18 month size in the museum trousers but cut the side seams so they actually tapered into the 6-12 month size. It worked perfectly. A nice slim pair of pants that still fits his diaper. This fabric is from the suiting section at JoAnns.
Next up my fifth Fairytale dress. This time with no collar and the thin bow around the waist. This pattern is becoming my go to occasion/church dress pattern because I love the details. I love the invisible zipper, and the way the skirt lining is sewn to the bodice lining so perfectly that it looks really finished on the inside. I found this die-cut rosette fabric in the bridal section of JoAnns and baste stitched it to all of my coral fabric pieces. Then I just sewed the dress up as normal.
At the bottom I hemmed the coral layer up a bit higher so the rosettes would hang down for a scallop effect.
This dress was also not without incident. I was almost done with the bodice when I realized that this had happened...
Notice the rosette placement. Dang rosettes. If these outfits wouldn't be remembered in Sam and Ellie's wedding pictures forever I might have left it that way haha.
Now for the models. A can move now so he is no longer my favorite model. J has reclaimed the coveted spot of best child model in the house.
Also, J broke her arm, dang it. It was a tiny fracture that involved a freak accident with a bag of pretzels. She wanted the florescent yellow cast, but I talked her into the pink for the sake of pictures.
Well that's it. Can't wait for all the upcoming trips/events! Hope you are all having a great summer!
